Georgios (from Greek) lived in the third century A.D. He was a high rank soldier of the East Roman Empire and challenged the dominant faith in the old gods by believing in the Christian faith, thus being arrested. His strong faith lead him through countless sessions of torture, spreading rumors that only strengthened the Christian religion. He was beheaded in April 23rd of 303, becoming one of the first martyrs of Christianity. St. George is among the oldest saints, known all around the world by inspiring faith, bravery, perseverance and courage. As time passes by and cultures change, these virtues remain dear to mankind, carrying St. George across the millenniums to be needed anytime we look for a hero to remind us we can be better human beings.
