A juvenile water moccasin, also known as a Florida Cottonmouth blends in on a fallen tree in the swamp. This cottonmouth blends in so well that many people walked past without even knowing that it was there. The bright colors of the juvenile moccasin next to the fallen cypress leaves. The orangish colors of the dead cypress leaves allowed for the Cottonmouth to blend in without any predators bothering it. This young cottonmouth stayed in the same spot for days, enjoying the shade and occasional sunlight that this spot provided.

Young individuals have yellowish or greenish tail tips and engage in caudal luring. The tail tip is wriggled to lure prey, such as frogs and lizards, within striking distance.
