The states are superpositions of number states (e.g., numbers of photons), which evolve in time under the effect of the same energy (Hamiltonian). The quantum states are visualized using the Wigner quasi-probability distribution, introduced by Eugene Wigner in 1932 to study quantum corrections to classical statistical mechanics.
