The inhalation of mind-altering chemicals was originally considered as a bridge to the metaverse. Chemically inducing a favorable alignment of synapses proved helpful in onboarding the very first lab rats to the TPL. However, the process was abandoned after failing for humans, and those first rats have since traversed the gateway into headier, more colorful fumes.
