The folk paintings developed in the late Joseon Dynasty as an expression of the people's ups and downs aspirations and aesthetic consciousness are largely unknown, so it is estimated that they were mostly painted by wandering painters. Since folk paintings were intended to decorate living spaces rather than for artistic appreciation, Korean sentiments are deeply embedded in their contents and ideas. Unfortunately, after the Japanese colonial period that lasted for about 30 years, many Korean folk tales have been deprived of Japanese and are now in museums and other collections. I hope that 'Journey in Folk Paintings' will be an opportunity to rediscover the beauty of our folktales.
