The Killers We Create is a set of 12 fictitious serial killers whose names are ideated by Twitter users but whose descriptions are written by GPT-3. In addition, each killer has been given a synthetic face using the GAN AI website ThisPersonDoesNotExist.com. The Killers We Create is inspired by the celebrity status the media often places upon serial killers. We love to watch the news coverage and documentaries from afar, but are we complicit?

In July 2020, the FBI initiated Operation Chatty Cathy. Its goal was to develop a conversational interface with virtual recreations of well-known serial killers based on limited FBI data. The resulting AI came to be known as The Consultants and became instrumental in conducting posthumous interviews with killers.

In April 2021, The Consultants escaped from the FBI's air-gapped computers.
