Discovering shapes in nature is the most fascinating aspect of photography. Before I picked up photography I was always drawn to interesting landscapes but never understood why.

When I began travelling China and Europe with my first camera, I was instantly intrigued by shapes found in nature and they would be my primary focus as my eyes would look for geometry and symmetry.

I would hang around locations composing photographs framing the same spot in different perspectives. I found a lot of joy experimenting with angles to fill the frame with interesting elements to tie the whole scene together.

For this photograph, I used the same approach to frame the bay with its natural surrounds.

From this perspective high above, the large bay is centred accompanied by rugged vertical cliffs leading your eyes towards the sandy bay in the distance. In the forefront, the thick canopy frames the photograph with lush green foliage leading you out to the ocean. Complimenting the scene, the whitewash on the rock shelves adds movement and subtle depth.

Photography opens you up to see art within nature. You will be attracted to a location that makes you feel something and to observe hidden shapes and details that makes a scene pleasing to the eye.
