Lvov was founded by the Galician prince and king of Russia Daniil Romanovich in the middle of the XIII century, presumably around 1256 it becomes the capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality. After the first partition of the Commonwealth, from 1775 to 1918, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, formed by the Habsburgs, who considered themselves the successors of the kings of Russia and held the title of kings of Galicia and Lodomeria. During the collapse of Austria-Hungary in 1918, it became the capital of the West Ukrainian People's Republic, however, following the results of the Polish-Ukrainian War, it was annexed to Poland. In June-September 1941, it was the de facto seat of the Ukrainian state government, organized after the proclamation of the Act of the restoration of the Ukrainian state during the Second World War.
