Gold Coastin' by Alexxa Walker

There is an inexplicable pull to the land that is felt when traveling the coast of Ghana. We were privileged to be able to explore and connect with these lands on our own, crossing very few travelers throughout our journey.

We made our way to Cape 3 Points - the southernmost tip of Ghana - during our road trip along the Gold Coast. On this day, we walked along the beach to check out the lighthouse at the top of the hill. The sun dug deep into our skin as the ocean carried the scent of salt dancing in the air. I remember looking along the beach, falling in love with her tranquility, her sense of peace. It was just you, me and her - and that’s all that I would ever need.

After making it to the lighthouse, we ventured down to the other side of the beach where we were met with a crowd of people who were also escaping the sun. We took a beat, enjoyed the vibe, then made our way back to the lodge.

We sat down at the neighboring restaurant for fresh tilapia, rice, pepper and a well-deserved Club beer. As the sun started to set, we made our way to the car feeling full - full of life, energy, and a sense of liberty. We now had more fuel to continue on our adventure on the Gold Coast.

Artist Bio

Alexxa Walker is an Afro-Asian photographer and artist currently based in Montreal, Canada. Over the last five years, she has been committed to using art, image-making, and more recently, NFTs to elevate and celebrate the voices and stories of underrepresented communities - with an emphasis on women of color and African communities. This commitment is what led her to starting her project 'Phenomxnal Womxn' - where she shares stories that speak to the realities of women around the world. People of color and African communities have often been pushed to the peripheries of art, photography and history as a whole, which is why she strives to eternalize their stories through photography and blockchain technology while working to ensure that marginalized communities have their voices heard.

When you think of a perfect day, what comes to mind is as unique as your fingerprint. What does a perfect day look like for you? Has it happened already, or is it an aspiration? Do you think you’d recognize it at the time, or would it be perfect only in retrospect? Is it a sweeping sunset on a remote mountaintop? A lazy day, drinking sangria in the park (as it famously was for Lou Reed)? Is it found within a river of protestors, fists raised to the sky as you cry out for justice? A sleepy morning in your dinosaur pyjamas, eating cereal with the one you love most? A perfect day is intensely personal, individually iconic, and shines a light on what’s important to each of us. May you have many of them throughout your life.

There are many perfect days, but this one is mine.
