Two and a half thousand years ago in Athens, Greece lived a man named Aristocles. He was engaged in gymnastics and got the nickname Plato from his coach. Plato means "broad shoulders." Plato studied philosophy and science, met Socrates, studied a lot with him, and later began to teach. Plato organized a scientific group with his students and colleagues, and named it in honor of Akadem, the hero of Greek fairy tales. Thus Plato became the first Western academic. Aristotle studied with him. Students of the Academy of Plato were engaged in philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, natural science, as well as issues of the immortality of the soul and other interesting subjects. They loved mathematics so much that at the entrance of the academy it was said: “Let None But Geometers Enter Here!”
