All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

The ongoing Wood Block Number Series starts with brass numbers on scrap wood photographed sitting on burlap. Seems simple enough. Maybe even a little boring. Is this art?

As an interactive abstract expressionist with a penchant for numbers my work often relies on collectors to move a series forward. No collectors, no series. No sales, no second state. In this series, once the first state sells, the block is painted (IRL), photographed, and listed in its next “state”. New versions of each number are only released when the previous version sells. Only one state of each number will be listed at any one time. The blocks themselves will be auctioned after 100 states (what will they look like after 100 layers of paint? Will we even be able to see the numbers?!!)

As always, my creative efforts support community coalitions committed to systemic racial and economic change within Seattle’s creative economy. As founder of Blue Cone Studios and Forever Safe Spaces, my ongoing mission is to ensure we exist in a future where we can all thrive. 50% of all Wood Block proceeds will be transferred to Forever Safe Spaces via the metamask wallet of our Non-Profit partners, Harriet Tubman Foundation for Safe Passage.

Thanks for playing.

To know me is to know my intense relationship with numbers and the prevalence of them in my work. Unlike most students of numerology, my connection is more intuitive and spiritual. I couldn’t tell you what the number six means, but I was born in the sixth month and 116 is the number of the sonnet that I think best describes love. I have different numbers for different friends, numbers that make me feel strong, numbers that remind me to be patient. I often describe numbers as the language I use to communicate with “god”. In this vein, and with the freedom in the metaverse to be exactly who we are, I present this collection of numbers 1-9, sometimes zero, and my favorite combinations thereof.
