Removing the Demon from the Rock Oil on Linen 84in (213cm) x 79in (201cm) 2018

The origin of the title comes from a Luca Signorelli fresco, titled The Life of St. Benedict, Scene 23: Benedict Drives the Devil Out of a Stone. The image of the devil is faded, and so it becomes abstracted by nature, by time, and environment. I became fascinated by this segment of the fresco and have used its visual elements to inform how I engage a figurative presence in several of my paintings. This painting is currently on view at the South Bend Museum of Art in South Bend, Indiana until May September 2021.
