Picasso once said, “if you know exactly what you’re going to, then what’s the point of doing it?”
Years ago, this sentence annoyed me. I kept thinking, ‘Of course I know what I’m going to do and I’ll set about doing it’. Now I am inching closer to understanding what Picasso meant. In many circumstances, there’s liberation in being spontaneous, acting upon impulse, not planning everything out — being fully immersed in the present moment. Enjoying and absorbing the new without expectation.
In the spirit of that, this painting received no planning, no forethought other than to give it none, and the result was an explosion of bright colour.
