Hyperion, also known as Saturn VII (7), is the largest of Saturn's irregular, nonspherical moons. Considering its odd potato-shape, Hyperion is probably a remnant of a larger moon that was destroyed by a major impact. Hyperion has unexplained sponge-like appearance and it rotates chaotically, tumbling unpredictably through space as it orbits Saturn.

Hyperion was discovered by William Lassell in 1848. That same year William Cranch Bond, together with his son George Phillips Bond, independently discovered Hyperion. All three men are jointly credited with the discovery.

Planeths collection image

The Planeths collection is dedicated to all space fans 🌌🌠

My fascination with space started when I was five years old. My grandpa used to wake me up in the night just to show me the stars and constellations in the night-sky. These are my best childhood memories. Later on, I got into reading books about space as well as playing games like Nintendo's Galaga and StarCraft. Now as a grown-up, I continue carrying this love for space with me.

Every planeth is a piece of my heart - a heart that loves these mysterious, endlessly captivating celestial objects.
