Kru-Grebo mask were made by privileged members of the Kru people and were used during secret ceremonies and village celebrations. The Kru people are native to modern day Liberian people. They were one of the most feared people by raiders of the land centuries ago.

Grebo masks till today are extremely rare. All the masks are characterized by an elongated nose and tubular eyes. These Kru masks were amongst the best of the African masks that strongly inspired Picasso at the beginning of the 20th century, and also Constantin Brancusi. Little is known about Grebo masks and dances because they were made by few privileged craftsmen.

The characteristic feature of Grebo masks which is an elongated nose and sets of several tubular eyes represented sears or people who mediate between the people and the spirit world.

3D AFRICAN MASKS collection image

Most African masks that were taken from the continent are now in the homes of private collectors and museums. The descendants of these mask makers do not have the privilege of seeing what their ancestors carved. Even though the masks were aesthetically appealing, they were functional to the tribes that used them.

African masks represent ideas that are still relevant today. I am making the most rare and most expensive masks available to new collectors in 3D. 50% of Proceeds will be contributed in setting up an Innovation Hub, in Ghana. This Innovation Hub will be a place where young creatives who are the descendants of these mask makers will come to, to develop their ideas and bring them to fruition using technology. Creatives will receive training material to develop their talents and creative abilities.
