This Model A was produced in Cadillac’s initial year of operation after its founding by Henry Leland. That makes it one of the first 2,497 cars built after Cadillac made its debut at the 1903 New York Auto Show. The backstory goes that this car was dropped off for storage with a farmer in Decatur, Michigan, around 1910, by a traveling salesman who decided to take the train home instead of drive. The salesman never returned for the car, so the farmer eventually began driving it in local parades and the like. The seller’s father, an antique car enthusiast, unsuccessfully tried several times to buy the Model A before it was reduced to blackened steel when its barn was destroyed in a 1950s case of arson.
