This piece was inspired by The Book of Luke chapter 2. The painting shows The Birth of Christ in an abstract cubist form. The figures are shown as Russian Dolls (Matryoshka/Babushka). Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus are painted as Russian Dolls to show that we need to live our lives as Russian Dolls, in a sense. We need to place our family members and close friends into our lives to love and protect them, and also have Jesus as the center of our being. When we place others in our lives it helps us grow the way God want us to grow. It also helps us treat them as we want to be treated, and to love them as Christ loves the church.
