Inti is a naïve Quechua teenager, raised by coca farmers and the eldest of seven children. His father wanted to give his his son a better education, so he sent Inti and his sister Quilla to the city.
Inti wears a golden headpiece, reflecting the great golden disk that represents the sun god. Much like his namesake, Inti exudes power – his integrity and resilience protects him against the abuses of the prison guards, the Diabla’s taunting and this dark, unfamiliar world.
Concept by Violeta Ayala. Costume design by Maria Corvera. Illustrated in VR by Rilda Paco. Animation by Roly Elias.
The eccentric deity the Jaguaress greets you at the velvet curtain, the gateway between theatre and lived experience. She casts you as Inti, a young man who dreamed of being the Sun God, (son of Viracocha, the maker of time), but ended up in Prison.
Inside the world of Prison X, you relinquish control over reality, as you embody one of the characters in the Jaguaress’ story where you have to coexist with devils, saints, corrupt prison guards and even a western filmmaker. Prison X is a mythological journey inside the dreams and nightmares of the Neo-Andean underworld.
Prison X premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2021 to critical acclaim and will premiere in Europe at Cannes XR.
