The island of Cyprus, where artist Penny Monogiou is originally from, is the last country in Europe to be divided - since 1974. The borders that can be seen in the capital, Nicosia, are reminiscent of the Berlin Wall and the division of Germany. For 47 years, the Cypriot people have been waiting and hoping for a solution to reunite the island. By the term Cypriot people, the two artists mean the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots. For this is not a representation of animosity between the two cultures, but a message of hope for a common peaceful future. Before 1974, people of both nationalities lived together peacefully. The NFT artwork by Penny Monogiou and Lucas Betz tells of a dream. A dream of peace, of right political decisions that take into account the well-being of people and put human dignity first. The wish that after a long period of suffering a renaissance will occur.
