World Champion 1935-1937
The mathematician Max Euwe was the only amateur chess player to become world champion - the fifth in chess history. The Dutchman became a professor of Computer Science in Tilburg in 1964. From 1970 to 1978 he was president of the World Chess Federation FIDE.
