This work is part of a larger body of work entitled "Centerfold" (2019 - Present). The individual men and women that I depict within "Centerfold" are ones that I come across in my research of vintage 'girlie', erotic, and physique magazine. These particular men and women's bodies are highlighted and celebrated with a two to three page fold out magazine spread aka 'centerfold'. Playing with format and material, I incorporate my embroidery with the iconic act of unfurling a centerfold by including a page (or pages) from the original magazine centerfold.
This "centerfold" was Miss Pamela Rhodes aka Penthouse Pet of the Month, "Penthouse", February 1979.
The EVERY WOMAN BIENNIAL is a celebration of: uplifting women, non-binary artists, creating opportunities, encouragement, connection, community, inspiration and love. Bringing together established artists alongside hundreds of emerging artists, some showing for the first time. The Biennial launched in NYC in 2014 by founder C. Finley, originally under the name, The Whitney Houston Biennial, as a way to provide a platform and exposure for more female artists.
