Once a bicycle factory, ROG building in Ljubljana, Slovenia, was since 2006 an Autonomous zone. It was used as a painting and sculpturing place, a hall for low budget concerts, a skate park, a social centre where local NGO's gathered with refugees and a place where martial arts group and a circus group held their practices. It was an area where market forces did not govern. The building itself was deteriorated. In early morning 19 January 2021, after years of conflict between the municipality and the users of ROG, security backed by police special forces entered ROG unannounced and started demolishing the buildings in the ownership of the municipality. Immediate protest against the demolition was held in front of ROG. Protesters did not achieve much apart from media coverage. A place that was an alternative to touristic coffee bars and fancy discos was demolished, our freedom to choose an alternative impoverished. Municipality is planning a modern exhibition space building in place of ROG.
