Classical conditioning is one of the first theories that can be associated with the movie Clockwork Orange, directed by Stanley Kubrick. Classical conditioning is a theory founded in the early 1900’s, and it explains how individuals make an association between two different stimuli (Pavlov, 1902). In the movie, when the main character, Alex, tries to convince people that he wants to change his violent ways, he will go into this experimental study where he finds his ‘cure’ and lets these violent tendencies go, which is essentially aversion therapy.

In order to explain this further; first, they give Alex a drug that he thinks are vitamins but are actually a drug that causes nausea. Second, they force him to watch violent movies. In this case, what the experimenters are trying to do is basically force an association between the feelings of sickness (nausea) and the violent behaviors, in order to stop his behavior.
