Looking at The Calamity of Knowing raises several questions and I will answer none of them. They are for you to explore on your own. It is a piece that isn't outright scary but leaves me with a sense of unease. Something is wrong, forgotten, or left behind. When I look at this I don't feel fear, though. I feel calm. As if I understand that this, too, is just a part of life. Just like some things are better left unsaid, perhaps some things are better left unknown.
Recalled Red is a series of works shot on 120mm rolls of Cinestill 800T film. The rolls were recalled due to the chemical imbalance that gives these images their warm overcast. This series is very personal to me. The red, orange, and yellow tones of the works, instead of representing their usual feelings of warmth and friendliness, explore the colder sentiments of isolation, the nostalgia of so-dreamt “better days”, and ambivalence towards life in the present and future that I’ve often struggled with. I hope that viewing this series presents you with a moment of respite and eases the passing of time for you as shooting it did for me.
