04.Osaka Castle

Osaka Castle Tower stands tall against the blue sky. The castle tower was rebuilt in 1931 and is now a museum with many valuable materials on display inside. Construction of Osaka Castle began in 1583 on the site of the former Osaka (Ishiyama) Honganji Temple by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who wanted to unify the country. The castle keep, the most central building in the main part of the castle, was completed two years later, but it was destroyed by fire in the summer battle of Osaka in 1615, when the Toyotomi clan perished. The castle tower was rebuilt during the Tokugawa period, but was destroyed again by lightning in 1665. Since then, Osaka Castle has remained without a castle tower. The current castle tower was built in 1931 at the request of the then mayor of Seki, with donations from citizens. The castle tower, which has been restored after 266 years, is 55 meters above ground and has five floors and eight stories, and is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. From the 8th floor observatory, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Osaka.
