‘Galungan’ is the first part of my genesis NFT collection, ‘Volcanoes’, a three-part series dedicated to some of Indonesia’s most fascinating natural landmarks.
This image marks the culmination of 5 years worth of dreaming, chance encounters, and a ceaseless pursuit of a moment that encapsulated the beauty of my newfound home, Bali.
In March 2020, I found myself in unfamiliar territory. With the world closing down, I faced the prospect of remaining still for the first time in my creative journey - a notion I increasingly struggled to find comfort in.
The mountains, jungles, and villages of northeastern Bali soon became my escape from reality, where I drove my scooter more than 15,000km in search of the perfect moment.
A 4 am start in April 2021 led me here. Decorative penjors lined the street for ‘Galungan’, marking the victory of good over evil, and with that, I caught the most phenomenal lenticular cloud sitting atop Bali’s most sacred mountain, Mt. Agung.
